Manalis Winery
Our History
Sikinos, formerly known as Oinoe, has been famous since ancient times for its vineyards.
According to tradition, the island later took the name Sikinos from the mythical hero Sikinos, son of Thoas and Oenopion (daughter of Dionysus), which further reinforces the Dionysian and wine-producing identity of the place.
In Sikinos, nothing is given for free.
The wind, the sun, and the rocks test man.
In order to keep the little soil they had, the elders gathered stone by stone from the edges of the mountain and built dry stone walls, which still stand today.
Vines were planted between these stones.
The roots learned to live deep, to ask for little, and to hold on to what they were given.
Manalis Winery was born as an idea in 2005, to keep alive what had endured, relying on tradition to ensure creative continuity.
The vineyard was not treated only as arable land, but as a living cultural heritage, making use of these old roots.
Emphasis was placed on indigenous varieties and mild, traditional cultivation and winemaking practices.
Thus, the wines produced authentically express the old vineyard that connects today with the long history of Sikinos.
The winery
Mavalis Winery is located just 2 km from the village of Sikinos and 6 km from the port, on the northwestern side of the island, at an altitude of 430 meters above sea level, overlooking the Aegean Sea.
It has been operating since 2008 exclusively with renewable energy sources in a 100% environmentally friendly space. It vinifies the production of its own vineyard using gentle methods, while also utilizing modern techniques such as temperature control.
It also has a cellar with wooden barrels for aging red wine.
Manalis Winery is open to visitors every day from May to October 15, from 6 p.m. until late at night.
At the entrance to the winery, you will find the reception area where you can discover the wine that suits you and enjoy it on our terraces against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Aegean with a panoramic view of the surrounding islands.
The Strofylia Restaurant operates at the Winery, offering authentic flavors that complement our wines

Vineyards - Varieties
Manalis Estate stretches across wild but fertile land, a place called Oinoi in ancient times due to its many vineyards.
Our vineyards are cultivated on terraces, with dry stone walls carved by stone and sea, reflecting the unique beauty of the Cyclades in every bunch of grapes.
The soil is sandy loam. The climate is dry, with mild winters, which enhances the natural resilience of the plants, while the sunshine and the sea concentrate the aromas of the grapes in every drop of wine.
The vines are planted at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, reaching up to 450 meters. During the summer months, they are cooled by the night breeze from the sea, creating wines with a dynamic character.
With passion and respect for tradition, we have revived the red ones, Mavrotragano and Limnio varieties in our vineyard.
Asyrtiko, Aidani, and Monemvasia are our white varieties.
Our vineyard bears the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) of the Cyclades, a guarantee of quality and authenticity that makes our wines unique.
